Case Closed: Journalism Dead

Need any more evidence that the media has abdicated it's job completely?
Obama's Chief Technology Officer takes a leave of absence because his last employer gets raided by the FBI in a bribery sting and where does Good Morning America send their reporters?
To Alaska to walk up to Brisol Palin's ex-fiance while he's in his truck and minding his own business to ask him why he and Bristol called off the wedding. And this is during their "hard news" first half hour.
Children are supposed to be off limits unless they put themselves out there into the public realm. This poor young man was just engaged to the child of a candidate, has never put himself on television except to show support to the mother of his child.
But Obama's CTO gets NO coverage, and if it wasn't for the Internet and Fox News, it wouldn't. Scary.

Also, have you noticed that Ingraham's justifications sound familiar? When she gets called on her attacks she makes the excuse that it was just a joke, and that people have done the same to her? Do conservatives teach their kids that two wrongs do in fact make a right? Wasn't this once the party of personal responibility?
Please keep it up!

So Laura actually said she's pretty enough to be a model. It's society that says it's unacceptable to be overweight. She thinks Meghan is pretty, despite her weight. That's what she said. She thinks she's an intellectual lightweight, and I agree, but she didn't call her fat, unless you're going to use society's unreasonable standards.
She didn't say she needed to lose weight. She did say she was pretty enough to be a model. Frankly, I prefer Meghan over Calista Flockhart, so it all depends how you take it.
It amazes me that the same people who rail against societies unreasonable "standards" for a woman's body shape would be upset that Laura said she was pretty despite her weight. You can choose to be happy you were called cute and model material, or you can focus on the plus-sized part of it.
Should she have left it at pretty and not said "plus-sized model"? Probably. But I listen to Laura every morning and hear her heart and she was overall very complimentary of Meghan's appearance, just critical of her ideas.

It all fits with the party of personal responsibility and higher standards! And as long as it is not as bad as something someone else said about Rush one time, we have no responsibility!
If you gave our public servants 10% of the benefit of the doubt you give to Rush and Laura, you might actually see where they are really coming from and be able to have a productive discussion. Has it ever occurred to you to look at what your house is made of before you start throwing stones?

Note that I said she shouldn't have called her "plus-sized".
I addressed the hypocrisy of both claiming to be against unrealistic body images for women, then implying that being plus-sized is insulting.
No, plus-sized women aren't fat, in my eyes and they eyes of many. Now being 5' 0" and 300 pounds, that's fat. Is being "plus-sized" healthy? Depends on the person, as I've met plenty of people that would be considered "overweight" who were in better cardiovascular shape than me, and I'm "skinny".
I just know Laura wasn't TRYING to hurt her feelings, and probably felt she was complimenting her appearance and said something that got blown out. I'm looking at intent, you're not.
That's the difference. Laura didn't call her a pretty, plus-sized model to personally tear her down. The examples I gave are people trying to denegrate and hopefully demonize people they oppose. I'm looking at both the intent and heart of the people saying those things. Again, she should have left out the plus-sized part, but the difference is that it slipped out for Laura. The other nasty things I quoted and things like the organized destruction of an ordinary citizen like Joe the Plumber are premeditated.

But I won't hold my breath. I like living.

And did you notice how Obama immediately made a mea culpa after the Special Olympics comment? Apologized before the show even aired and made no excuses? Didn't try some lame excuse about how it was only a joke, or meant as a compliment? That's how a grown up reacts.
"I'm looking at both the intent and heart of the people saying those things." Somehow you are certain of the goodness of Laura and Rush (the guy who mocks parkinson's disease) and the darkness and ill intent of virtually every single human being in the administration, without meeting any of them. LOL!

I only wondered if the ladies on The View were going to treat Obama's comment the same way they treated Laura. Both were said off the cuff. Both give some insight to the way they really feel. I did not question Barack's intent, I know he was just trying to be funny, not hurtful. The original blog posting was whether journalism was dead. The lack of outcry over the comment compared to the outcry against conservatives making similar slip ups is my point.
And you know how else a grown up reacts? When somebody calls them a "plus-sized model" they say "Wow, she thinks I'm pretty enough to be a model!"
Remember, it was you who accused me of encouraging armed revolution, when all I did was warn it might happen if too many liberties are removed. Remember it was our mother that said "Rush Limbaugh would love to see blood running in the streets," without knowing who he is.
I've never, ever accused Barack of WANTING or ENCOURAGING anything that bad. I've warned that the direction he's taking could create that situation, but that doesn't mean I want it to happen or that I'm right.
Yet you come on here and accuse me of thinking these people have ill intent. All that I know they want is power, but very few politicians on either side are any different these days.
I hope my fears aren't realized. I hope Glenn Beck and Peter Schiff and the many, many others crying out for restraint while they warn us are wrong.
I am worried that almost all our media aren't going to tell us how bad it is until it's too late because of their bias. Did you know US Army troops were deployed in Georgia after that murder spree, in violation of the law? No? You'd have to have dug for it or watched Glenn Beck/Fox News to hear about it.
Will we know when our liberties are gone if they are taken? How?
I lost a little hope that Barack would stop the madness until he allowed people who worked for $1 a year under the promise of a bonus to be villified and have their lives destroyed. Read this and ask yourself: Should our president have stepped up and said "These bonuses were appropriate and required to help us get our money back. These people earned this?" Should he have stopped ACORN, the group he used to do training for, from loading people on buses to go protest outside these people's houses? Does an AIG employee just trying their hardest to wind down a business very few people understand have to die before the media gets outraged at the attacks on private individuals receiving what they were contracted to get?

Again, it's hard to start an outcry when someone has already taken responsibiility and apologized. If Laura or Rush or whomever had said early on "my bad" or "perhaps I wasn't clear, allow me to explain," there would have been nothing to talk about. It's the hubris and absolute unwillingness to recognize any imperfections in oneself or one's allies, while lobbing stone after stone at others, that makes them easy targets.
"Will we know when our liberties are gone if they are taken? How?" I always fell out of my chair when I read this. It's like you quoted from all the ACLU pamphlets from the past 8 years. We've all been there. Major changes, like those brought by Bush and Obama, are scary. But the world didn't end under Bush and it's not going to end under Obama. I truly hope Glenn Beck can read some history books, gain some perspective, and stop crying. His pain saddens me, because it's not necessary. Even if mistakes are being made, history shows that most mistakes can be undone. (Obviously, we can't bring back lives lost in war, but economies can be fixed. We came out the Great Depression stronger than before.)
But we need you. No one has all the answers. There are legitimate alternate approaches and viewpoints that will moderate and improve the current plansr. But alternative viewpoints are only heard if expressed respectfully and constructively. Do you think that anyone will really think that you have given Geithner's plans a fair shake and evaluated them objectively when you only refer to him as "Turbo Tax Cheat Geithner?" You reveal that your mind was made up beforehand. And your opinion thus loses a great deal of credibility.
It's possible for someone to mess up his taxes and still be a good economist. It's possible for the president to be wrong on many things and still be right on others. Note that Bush and Obama both made the bad decision to take drugs at one time in their lives, but have also made many good decision. Many Republicans accepted that Geithner made an honest mistake when they voted to confirm him. I know you are trying to be funny. But given the seriousness and the import you give to your blog posts, I think it's time to let some of the attacks go.

Laura addressing the satire that The View went after
Found Obama's offhand comment about Jessica Simpson's weight. Gee, how come that didn't get Jessica onto The View?
Again, not excusing Laura's choice of words in her satire. The point of this blog post and my comments is the uneven way liberals and conservatives are treated.
