George Bush Not the Only “Big” Oil Man - Include George Soros

It was reported that soon after President Obama issued the six month moratorium on deep-water drilling, the George Soros-backed Brazilian oil company, Petrobras, contacted Laborde Marine which services the deep-water drilling market in the gulf coast region. The purpose of the contact was to lease all of the “now out of service” vessels owned by LaBorde.
After receiving the contact, Cliffe F. Laborde and J. Peter Laborde, Jr. wrote a letter to their Louisiana Senators stating, “If the moratorium on deep-water drilling is not lifted, 33 semi-submersible rigs and/or drill ships affected will simply go to other countries where they will be well received, such as Brazil.”
Soros, who is the brainchild of the far left-wing organization MoveOn.org, is a proponent of socialism, global warming and environmental liberalism. He has pushed for the adoption of a global carbon tax. Yet, here Soros is, doing all that he can to promote drilling off of the Brazillian coast by a company that he personally profits from. As is often the case among the elite and powerful; they seem to oppose what does not personally profit them, yet they push for the same ideals and agenda where it does personally bring them profit.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal wrote in a letter to PresidentObama, “The last thing we need is to enact public policies that will certainly destroy thousands of existing jobs while preventing the creation of thousands more.” According to the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA), a group of drillers and companies that support oil production, each drilling platform that is shut down by the ban places 1,400 jobs at risk. NOIA officials said, ”The offshore industry is responsible for nearly 200,000 jobs in the Gulf of Mexico alone, and provides 30 percent of our nation’s domestic oil production….we must be careful not to make things worse.”
It would seem Soros and other liberals like him are not really opposed to offshore drilling and liberal environmentalism as they would have us believe. Rather, they support offshore drilling only where it most benefits them. By siding with liberals who oppose off-shore drilling (as well as on-land drilling), Obama is costing the nation in revenues and oil-related jobs. The American Petroleum Institute estimates that we have the available resources in the US to generate nearly 160,000 new jobs and $1.7 trillion in revenues to federal, state, and local governments, with $1.3 trillion from offshore drilling alone.
