All we heard was change, change, change, Obama will bring change.
Now, I had problems with a lot of what President Bush did, my biggest the bailouts and rescues that Paulson told him he had to force down our throats. The other was the spending that was driving up our debt. I remember constant outrage by Democrats that the national debt was about to break 10 Trillion.
What does Obama, Mr. Change, do? He quadruples down, raising the annual deficit from $500 Billion to $2 Trillion a year.
In the midst of all this outrage over AIG, what's really happening? Why did AIG need so much more than everybody else, now at $173 Billion dollars? Because $120 Billion of it was for OTHER BANKS, including $20 Billion to foreign banks and $13 Billion to Paulson's former coworkers, friends and employees at Goldman Sachs.
Paulson and Geithner were BOTH in charge of designing the bailouts, TARP, etc. They designed it to help their friends. AIG had documented that these retention bonuses were due to be paid out March 15, 2009 way back in January 2008. The information was there, so either Paulson/Geithner ignored it or they didn't do their full dilligence or they saw Democratic donors and the bailouts as a way to make those people happy with them.
Oh the outrage. One tenth of one percent of the bailouts, in fulfillment of contracts, is paid to 73 employees of AIG, 11 of which have already left AIG (probably for tax shelter countries, given some in Congress want to specially tax them to get it back, and there is outrage. Yet, we are not supposed to be outraged by 2%, $2 BILLION dollars, in 9,000 earmarks in the Omnibus spending bill. "Oh, it's only 2%."
That's real change, replacing Democrat Paulson with his friend and partner Geithner. Yes, there's change - he's increased how much of the bad stuff Bush was doing.
Want real outrage?
Obama's administration is proposing to refuse to pay for the care of injuries to veterans in combat!. It is a sacred promise that the government will care for these soldiers! It will also have a devastating effect on the ability of veterans to get healthcare or employment (follow all the links to find out how).
Obama used to think this was an outrage, before, like everything else, it expired. He once blasted McCain for his vote on a GI Bill. I guess he only likes veterans when he's campaigning.
This country owes it to our veterans to care for their injuries suffered serving us. Obama wants us to abdicate that. Now that's something to get outraged over!
