Politics Realm - A Conservative Perspective

Mainstream America Is Being Divided by an Intentional Political Wedge

May 5th 2010 13:52
Brendan Steinhauser, campaign director for FreedomWorks recently addressed an issue the liberal left is seeking to capitalize on – Racism in The Tea Party Movement. He said, "We don't want the worst elements to take this (Tea Party) over. If they do, the tea party loses independents, it loses moderates, it loses people who don't tolerate this. Being a racist is one of the worst things you can be in this society. No one wants to be labeled this."

When reading the liberal blogs, many of the comments reveal the belief that the Tea Party is filled with racism to the point of being motivated by the race card. Most of the people who commenting on liberal blogs have never been to a Tea Party Event (TPE), so where is the information coming from that is developing their belief system? It is certainly not coming through a first person experience. Obviously it is originating with the liberal left wing political pundits and the news media who is becoming well known for their selective use of wording such as “dozens of people” attended the Searchlight Tea Party (STP) in Nevada. While it is true that dozens of people attended the STP, it also true those dozens added up into the thousands.

Or how about the clips shown of isolated TPE incidents that have the express purpose of painting those clips to be representative of the Tea Party Movement as a whole? I have personally attended a number of TPEs and I am yet to see or hear any of this “reported” behavior. What I do see is aggression, racism and antagonism on the part of those who come to counter-protest. While I do not doubt there are extremists in the Tea Party Movement (and there are), they in no way represent the movement as a whole.

I may be creating the impression that I am defending the Tea Party Movement and that is what this post is about; but that is not my intent. What I do want to point out is the fact there is an intentional, concerted effort to drive a wedge between the American people in order to create a political divide. Many people on both the left and the right are being drawn into this wedge without realizing what is happening to them. By creating a political divide, mainstream Americans become divided into many smaller streams. The smaller the stream, the weaker it becomes and the easier it is to conquer. The old adage of “divide and conquer” remains as true today as it was the first day that it was ever used.

The Phoenix Suns are going to wear “Los Suns” (in place of the “Suns”) on their jerseys in their playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night "to honor [the] Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation.” Team owner Robert Sarver who was born and raised in Tucson, said frustration with the federal government's failure to deal with the illegal immigration issue led to the passage of what he called "a flawed state law. However intended, the result of passing the law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question, and Arizona's already struggling economy will suffer even further setbacks at a time when the state can ill-afford them."

Since when did it become "politically correct" to make politically dividing statements with one of the most unifying aspects of American life – professional sports? It was not that long ago that Rush Limbaugh was denied ownership of an NFL team because of his political viewpoints and statements related to race and the fact they were offensive to “some”. Yet, it would appear from the polls that the majority of Arizona residents (those who are in the US legally) are supportive of the immigration reform measures. How many of those people are offended by the political statement of the Phoenix Suns? What if the Tea Party Movement made a similar move as that of the Phoenix Suns, but in the opposite direction? Would it be tolerated, and yes, even applauded by the news media?

Where is the painting of the Illegal Immigration Rallies (IIR) as extremist, racist or violent? The IIR in Santa Cruz, CA erupted into violence, but MSM responded by saying the violence is “maybe being by acted out by anarchists” who may have “infiltrated” the May Day rallies, etc. AP reported the incident thusly, “SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Police in Santa Cruz, Calif., say they had to call for help from other police agencies to quell a May Day protest that turned destructive. Police spokesman Zach Friend says that when a crowd of about 250 people started marching through downtown around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, some demonstrators started breaking windows and spraying paint on retail shops. Friend says 18 businesses were damaged, with the cost of repairs estimated to be between $50,000 to $100,000. No injuries were reported.” CNN sent out a Tweet that said, “Do not blame the protestors.”

President Obama
instigated much of the outcry concerning the signing of the Arizona Immigration Bill by publicly opposing it. The people of Arizona (for the most part) are not opposed to immigration or workers rights, they are opposed to illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is ILLEGAL! Blatant falsehoods about Arizona's new immigration law are being manufactured and spread by the news media, political pundits, and liberal bloggers. Not only is the substance of the law being distorted, anyone who supports the reform is being treated as un-American and those who oppose it can do no wrong.

It is time for everyone to wake up and come back to their senses. Know what you know because you know it and not because some pundit, blogger, or politician told you so. Our minds can only be manipulated when they do not know what they know for themselves.

Don't take my word for it either! Go research the facts yourself - with an open mind to the truth.

Divide and conquer. One of the oldest methods of tearing a group (or country) apart. The liberals are experts at it, especially the community organizer-in-chief.
