Politics Realm - A Conservative Perspective

My Beef with McCain

July 25th 2008 21:40
Just so you know I’m not a mindless Republican robot, let me go after John McCain on one thing: global warming. As he says in this TV ad he believe climate change is real.

Boy is he right . . . except that he also thinks man contributes to it in a significant way. He believes that CO2, which we all breathe out every day, is a cause of it. I can only take safety in his assertion that billions of new taxes and regulations are not the way to handle it. Plans like the Cap and Spend bill the liberals tried to push through Congress do nothing but create new taxes and new ways for different industries to pour cash into campaigns to change their cap levels.

Climate change is real, but it is a natural part of Earth’s cycle. As this 1974 Time magazine article makes abundantly clear, we are on a natural 30 year cycle. The article warns of impending Ice Age caused by, you guessed it, burning fuel:
Man, too, may be somewhat responsible for the cooling trend. The University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists suggest that dust and other particles released into the atmosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the surface of the earth.

Sound familiar? And what years do they measure the temperature against?
Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F.
That’s right, a 30 year period. Current hysteria, you’ll notice, always discusses the temperature difference since the 1970s.

One of the places alarmists like Al Gore like to point to is Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, that it’s a horrible tragedy that it’s losing so much ice. Here is what the Time article said about it:

Areas of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, for example, were once totally free of any snow in summer; now they are covered year round.

Oh, and how about the poor Polar Bear habitats? How’s this quote from this article:

Icebergs breaking away and polar bears supposedly drowning are good theater, but they do not reflect reality. In April, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) published a study, based on last September's data, showing Arctic ice has shrunk from 13 million square kilometers to just 3 million.

What the WWF didn't mention was that by March of this year the Arctic ice had recovered to 14 million square kilometers and that ice-cover around the Bering Strait and Alaska was at its highest level ever recorded. Ice freezes. Ice melts. That's what ice does.

It’s not hard to find this stuff. What the climate change religion wants us to do is listen only to them. I sincerely hope it backfires. There is tons of information about this, including the FACT that over 30,000 scientists from many fields have signed a petition saying this is junk science.

Recently Al was on the news that Global Warming is causing the Arctic Ice Cap to melt. Ten minutes of Googling gets you the article I linked with quotes regarding the polar bears plus pages and pages of scientific articles on volcanic activity along the Gakkel Ridge. So desperate are the warmists to get their government grants and massive subsidies for theirs and their friends foundations, unproven alternative energy projects and grandstanding, they claim that it’s not the metal melting heat that is causing the melting, it’s the CO2 being released . . .

You mean that same CO2 that was causing our massive global cooling since the 1940s . . .

This is all about cash folks. If it was real do you think that Al Gore would STILL, after all the press coverage of it, be using more electricity than two years ago, and way more in a month than the average house uses in a year? Do you think he would be travelling around in limos instead of armored hybrids?

The junk science houses and alternative energy folks are already lining up at the trough of subsidies waiting for a Democratic congress and President to pour money into them. It's purely ideology.

Just look at what this Australian scientist had to say. We're already cooling. There is also a ton of evidence that the IPCC has been selective in data collection. What is their motivation? They are made up of people from countries that have already hamstrung their economies spending billions on propaganda about global warming, taxing their energy industries and imposing massive environmental regulations on the gas we breath out every day.

Final notes:
- The Willamette Valley in Oregon had 5 days of high temperatures in the 50s this year, the first time since the 1950s, the year they started keeping statistics. Does it tell you something about how accurate they can be about an old Earth if they only have statistics for 58 years out of 13,000 or 13,000,000,000, whichever you believe? That small a sampling is what you call “not enough data to reach a conclusion.”

- Michael Savage has a great list of articles about climate change and what this is really all about here. Regardless of what you think of him, go check out the articles, which weren’t written by him.

- As a Christian, God has instructed us to take care of His Earth. I recycle as much as it’s possible to recycle. I teach my kids to turn lights off and live with a little heat. I do what I can to use natural products. However, I will not follow anything blindly, and neither should anybody reading this.

Great post, Jonathan! I've been talking about this for years and more scientists are coming forth with reality instead of the Gore-bage that we keep hearing in the mainstream media. I can't believe anybody still buys into it with all the facts coming out! John McCain is a big disappointment in many ways, but I had hoped he would at least have the sense not to follow blindly after Al Gore.
