Obama on Economy: I Vote Present
September 21st 2008 22:01
Obama's response to the economic crisis: Blame McCain and put his trust in the Fed and Treasury. So, all 18 months he's been campaining against eight more years of "failed George Bush policies," he wants to leave it in the hands of Bush appointees.
He claims he'll have a plan after they have a chance to do what they need to.
Barack has slammed McCain for proposing a commission, and, falsely, saying that's all he's proposing. A commission is needed as the first step to reform. You need to find out who broke the law and who created this problem.
But Barack knows it was people like Barney Frank. In this article, Barney is advocating delaying the Fed and Treasury fix until we make sure no executives walk away with millions.
This is typical democratic garbage:
a) Barney Frank is a major player in how all of this got as bad as it is: "These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.". In other words, our "mortgage welfare" will stop and we won't be able to pander to people who can't afford houses and shouldn't be buying them to begin with.
b) You can't legislatively mess with contracts and agreements that private corporations have made with their employees. First, it's not constitutional to charge somebody with a crime that wasn't a crime before you passed the legislation. Second, if you start letting legislators control salaries, they effectively become state-run, communist companies.
c) Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and the Democratic party, as well as many Republicans, will come out smelling terrible from a commission, as their parts in this come to light.
As I detailed in one of my other recent posts, John McCain has been warning about this, working to pass regulation about this mounting crisis, and has made solid proposals for making sure this doesn't happen again.
"Given the gravity of this situation," Obama said with gravity, "based on conversations I've had with both Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke, I will refrain from presenting a ...
... more detailed blueprint about how an immediate plan might be structured until I can fully review details of the plan proposed by the Treasury and Federal Reserve."
