Racism Gasping for Breath, Sexism Alive and Well
October 27th 2008 15:22
If the woman is a conservative at least . . .
There is still racism in this country, but polls show it is actually benefitting Barack - 9% of people are voting for Obama because he's black, 6% against because he's black.
What I find amazing is that as I make calls to independents and Republicans, I get a lot of "I don't like Sarah Palin."
When I ask them the reason, it is usually "she's being too aggressive and negative."
Hello folks! That's a vice-Presidential candidate's job! The VP is the attack dog so the Presidential candidate can stay above the fray!
Biden's been doing it, with a foot in his mouth, but he's been doing it, just as or more aggressively than Sarah.
I don't need to go into all the other sexism, but this is one that's missed and not mentioned. Sarah is doing her job by ripping into the opposition. If it looks unbecoming because it's a woman doing it, get over yourselves.
Personally, I wanted to see Joe treat her the same as he would a man during the debates, so she could rhetorically tear him up. She's strong enough to handle it, but the sexist part of our society "has rules" about how you talk to a woman.
Want equal pay and equal treatment? Then we have to get past it on both sides, both in how woman are treated in a positive way, but also letting them take the same heat and attacks than men have to deal with. You can't both want to be CEO or President, and also want to be treated unequally in criticism and challenge.
It will be very hard for Hillary or Sarah to become President until we get over this. When John McCain wins next week, then Sarah is the candidate in 2012, I hope it's against Hillary. That's the only way we can get past this double standard.

I support her, and will vote for her, and McCain this time, and if the Lords will if she runs for president anytime in the future, I will be a Palin supporter.
