Real Turkeys, and all that

April 15th 2009 16:12
I'm not going to comment a lot on this. I do recommend everybody, even libs, bookmark http://hotair.com.

This post is a great one, mostly about media bias.

But of course, by even posting this, I qualify for the DHS list of potential militia members to watch. Of course, if the Bush administration had put a report warning that left wing demonstrators and those returning from the Peace Corps, or heck a trip to France, might join groups like the Weather Underground, the press would be excoriating him.

It's important for people to remember that 80% of the people in America's television and print newsrooms identify themselves as liberals, so the information you get from the mainstream media is naturally biased. It's awfully easy for them to make a false claim, like the turkey George Bush had in Iraq was fake, then bury the truth that the turkey was real in the corrections section. They can sleep at night as long as the truth was put out there.

So libs, how many of your beliefs are from little false bombs tossed out like this to become viral internet lies, corrected on page E24 with the pet obituaries? Like the "Bush tax cuts for the rich" deceit, or Murtha's smears of the Haditha Marines that have since been acquited, or that if 2nd and 3rd trimester abortion is made illegal a woman's right to work outside the home is next.

Think the media isn't biased against religion as well? Then why do they keep calling the woman ACCUSED of killing Sandra Cantu a "Sunday School Teacher"? Yes, she was, but is that all she's done with her life? I guarantee if somebody once worked for ACORN as a volunteer but is now a secretary and did something like this, they wouldn't be saying "An ACORN Volunteer" as the only identification of who that person is. However, because a church at least once let her teach Sunday school, not knowing she could do something like this IF SHE EVEN DID IT, suddenly her being involved in a church is the most critical piece of information about her. During the entire story on GMA this morning, they had her name and under it "Sunday School Teacher." There is no reason for this except to perpetuate their stereotype that Christians are hypocrites. When the professor turned Al Qaida chemicals expert was arrested, it didn't say "Accused Muslim Extremist," it said "Former <University Name> Professor" under her name.

I was once a radical liberal, even having been "caught and released" at a Federal courthouse protesting for the SALT II treaty as a teenager. Then I learned facts and what has worked. I realized so much of what I believed was actually just theories and what-if dreams. When many of those theories had actually been tried in other places, they failed. All I can do is urge you not to get your "news" only from the mainstream outlets. Do your own research, check facts, especially if they're posted at Wikipedia. Ask yourself: Is my position on this based on what a theory says will happen, or on demonstrated results? Where has what I believe should be done been done already and how did it work there? Is my evidence anecdotal or a consistent and constant documented result? Am I repeating bumper stickers from my lefty friends Kieth Olberman and Chris Matthews? Or Rachel Maddow who devoted seven minutes to tea-bagging jokes to try to demean conservatives for gathering to have their voices heard?

You can support my blogging even more by buying my book at Author House. Unlike liberals, this is the only fantasy world I live in

Sadly, Jonathan, most people don't spend ten seconds trying to figure out what they believe and why. That's why so many people are still liberals, in spite of all the evidence that it doesn't work. And most of them don't want to hear anything that contradicts their "core beliefs" (bumper sticker slogans).

I've tried an experiment with some liberal friends and relatives. I asked them why they liked partial birth abortion, why they wanted more illegals taking jobs away from us, how they liked paying higher taxes so someone else could kick back and do nothing, etc. Straight from the Democrat platform. They were horrified that I would accuse them of such things. Some of them thought about it, studied and investigated and changed parties. Others just threw tantrums. Well, at least I tried...

I get the majority of my news from al-jazeera. Of all the major news outlets, I find them to have the least bias (at least as far as i can tell).

It was very interesting to compare their coverage of the war in Palestine to more western media sources.

Give Fox News Channel or Sky News a try, Someone.

Sky and Fox and ridiculously biased... possibly the most skewed I have come across. I do read them, just to appreciate a different perspective, but I don't take them seriously as sources of impartial journalism.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day, Someone! Of course it's still early...

To be honest, I haven't really given Sky and Fox a fair go. I have never lived anywhere where they have been on TV, th eonly American news that we got was CNN, which doesn't really compare to BBC.

I have read them a few times, but they do seem to be biased towards a republican viewpoint.

FNC does play in Australia, and most of the rest of the world, Someone. They only seem slanted Republican because the rest of the media here are so far in the Democrat arena. CNN used to be called the "Clinton News Network."

Ah, S.L., You underestimate the spending power of a broke uni student who can barely afford food (I'm living off my girlfriend's generosity at the moment)... I'm sure fox plays on cable, but us poor folk are stuck with free to air channels, which does not include fox.

I dunno.. I've heard criticisms of just about every news network except al-jazeera, so I tend to stick to them. They haven't done me wrong yet, you should check them out sometime.

We don't get al jazeera where I live, Someone. And I only speak European languages, not Arabic (or the derivatives thereof).

So, you're a student? What are you learning? Is there no work where you live? Your girlfriend must be well off to be able to support you and her both...

I study business, work is scarce, and I have money to pay rent and all... there are just a few days every now and again when i run out of food a day or 2 before payday and so my girlfriend fills in the gaps. I treat her back when I get paid, so it evens out. That's the problem with being a casual worker... hours are unpredictable, so some weeks I am flush with cash, others I barely have enough to get by. Government support helps, but in weeks with no work spending roughly 50% of your income in rent means that compulsive spenders like myself are often broke.

Al-Jazeera broadcasts in english (at least they did in Indonesia), and they have an english language website Here.

When you graduate, will there be work for you? I read something recently about technology changing so quickly that many of today's jobs won't exist in another few years and that millions of people will have jobs that haven't even been invented yet. I guess it's hard to predict the future of economies... I have supported students over the years, as they bumbled along with loans and grants to survive. Oddly, none of them graduated, but all have done well.

We have a shortage of work around here, too, but my adopted grandson makes a living for himself with a variety of projects (wood cutting, repairs and maintenance, etc.) which aren't in his preferred field. Sometimes you have to change course a little to reach your destination.

Tell me about it. I worked at a fruit and vegetable market for 2 years (and may again in the near future).. My yet-unfinished degree made me the most over-qualified person that worked there. Well, there were a few other uni students over the years, but none of them lasted long.

As for when I finish... given the current state of the world economy, and several government's apparent thirst for destructive over-spending, there may not be many jobs for anyone in the near future. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Good luck, Someone. Being willing to work and flexible will go a long ways.

In every study done by Pew and other neutral media analysis companies, Fox is the only one that comes out 50/50 in their coverage, if you don't count the Hannity show and Beck, which come right out and tell them who you are, their news is straight reporting leaving the decision up to you.

They are slammed as conservative because liberals don't want anybody reporting the stuff that goes against their story line. They don't think anybody should report that Obama's issued 17 waivers to his "no lobbyists in my cabinet" rule, or how much the deficits are going to be, etc.

And nothing is more slanted than Al Jazeera. Nothing.
